Week 18 - Baby names confirmed!


We've just finalized the names for our baby! 

...despite not knowing what gender it is xD So basically what we did is to prepare two sets of names - one in case it's a boy and another in case it's a girl. We plan on having a second child anyway and hopefully they will be a boy and a girl so we can make use of both of the names we've come up with.

Took me ages to get the Chinese names right though! Had to "design" the name so that it fits the "feng shui" for the Year of the Cow... ahem, I mean Ox... not that I'm a huge believer of Feng Shui in the first place but we both agreed that why should we tempt fate when it's so easy to just give the child a "good head start" with a good Feng Shui name :P

And no, I don't think I'll reveal them here ;) at least not until I know the gender of the baby. 

However, as a teaser, I can reveal the "ang mo" or English names that we've come up with for them - "Alan" after my hubby's fav DJ, Alan Walker; and "Alicia" just because it sounded nice :P

Why all the "As"? Well, let's just say that it's because my husband and I both coincidentally have English names starting with As as well so we thought it's a fun thing to do for the family. Not to mention, being Asian, getting and having As are very important :P

Week 36 - Baby dropped! The lightening

I've read plenty of articles about this phenomenon called "baby dropping" or "the lightening" but I've never experienced it until early morning today. Wok up as usual early dawn for my hourly (or so) pee and I noticed a few very obvious things 1. My bladder is actually full for once (can fill more pee before urging me to go to the loo) 2. The almost constant pain I feel in my lower back when lying down is just magically gone! 3. I can definitely breathe a lot deeper and better than before! 4. I can actually lie on my back and not feel aches. 5. The pain in my muscles/joints in between my thighs and my pelvis are mostly gone as well!  6. And of course, once it's daylight, I've noticed that my tummy's shape is exactly like the picture above. Can't say that I'm not ecstatic about this, not because I think the baby's due in 2 weeks to 4 weeks' time (according to said articles), but because I feel more like myself now. Still getting pa...

Week 20 - Nauseous while Pregnant? Sucking on an Ice Cube Really Helps!

I've tried so many different stuff to quell the nauseous feeling and I finally (on my 5th month :/) found a solution - sucking on an ice cube.  The cold seems to dispel the nausea pretty effectively. Though once the ice's melted, the nausea may sometimes come back. If it does, pop another ice cube into your mouth and try again. Most of the time, 2-3 cubes will completely dispel the nausea for me.  Not to mention, if you're like me and have very sensitive teeth, I still managed to place the ice cube on my tongue and use the roof of my mouth to hold it there as it melts. That way, the ice won't touch any of my teeth and I won't get that sharp pain feeling that I usually get when I eat anything cold and chilly. Note that I also use the more expensive "toothpaste for sensitive teeth" which is supposed to help dampen that sharp pain feeling (or alleviate it altogether if you're lucky) so that might have helped too. Week 28 - Follow-up plus Scan

Welp, the doctor can't be sure of the gender due to the baby's position but she couldn't see any male genitalia so she reckons the baby's a "she" :) That said, during the scan and the subsequent measurements, it seems like the baby has a much smaller than (even lower) average head circumference, which could mean some form of defect, but oddly enough, the baby's weight (in spite of my weight not increasing) is still on track.  So I think it's likely it's an incorrect measurement due to the position of the baby. The doc probably thinks so too and scheduled another scan after 2 weeks. Had to do the glucose test again tomorrow - yuck! - but well, gotta do what you gotta do!
