Week 8 ( I think?) - Telling the Immediate Family

 


Despite not having a confirmation from a doctor yet, we've decided to inform our immediate family. My hubby has been bursting to tell his parents and I did tested positive on both test kits.... plus, it's not like I've been thinking about wanting a baby non-stop so it's very unlikely that this is just some weird psychological thing dreamt up in my head and executed by my body.

Naturally, we got congratulations from both sides. His sis suggested that we get an ultrasound at a private clinic but personally, I think there's really no rush and we can save some cash for baby stuff later on. 

My dad's funny though - during our video call, and after I told him that he's about to become a grandfather now... he did a double take; his eyes turned wide; and then he said, "wah, so fast ah?" 😂 Then my mum chimed in, in Mandarin. "He meant to say that he's happy for you" And then, my dad did a double take again and said, "yes, yes what your mum said"

My hubby also called his mum and ambushed me by passing the phone to me when she answered. It was pretty awkward since I have no idea what to say. 

Anyway, I'm not feeling anything different yet besides the tender breasts and very oily face leading to multiple new pimples popping up. Hope I'll continue like this and skip the morning sickness part... oh how I hate vomiting 😩

Week 36 - Baby dropped! The lightening

I've read plenty of articles about this phenomenon called "baby dropping" or "the lightening" but I've never experienced it until early morning today. Wok up as usual early dawn for my hourly (or so) pee and I noticed a few very obvious things 1. My bladder is actually full for once (can fill more pee before urging me to go to the loo) 2. The almost constant pain I feel in my lower back when lying down is just magically gone! 3. I can definitely breathe a lot deeper and better than before! 4. I can actually lie on my back and not feel aches. 5. The pain in my muscles/joints in between my thighs and my pelvis are mostly gone as well!  6. And of course, once it's daylight, I've noticed that my tummy's shape is exactly like the picture above. Can't say that I'm not ecstatic about this, not because I think the baby's due in 2 weeks to 4 weeks' time (according to said articles), but because I feel more like myself now. Still getting pa...

Week 20 - Nauseous while Pregnant? Sucking on an Ice Cube Really Helps!

I've tried so many different stuff to quell the nauseous feeling and I finally (on my 5th month :/) found a solution - sucking on an ice cube.  The cold seems to dispel the nausea pretty effectively. Though once the ice's melted, the nausea may sometimes come back. If it does, pop another ice cube into your mouth and try again. Most of the time, 2-3 cubes will completely dispel the nausea for me.  Not to mention, if you're like me and have very sensitive teeth, I still managed to place the ice cube on my tongue and use the roof of my mouth to hold it there as it melts. That way, the ice won't touch any of my teeth and I won't get that sharp pain feeling that I usually get when I eat anything cold and chilly. Note that I also use the more expensive "toothpaste for sensitive teeth" which is supposed to help dampen that sharp pain feeling (or alleviate it altogether if you're lucky) so that might have helped too. Week 28 - Follow-up plus Scan

Welp, the doctor can't be sure of the gender due to the baby's position but she couldn't see any male genitalia so she reckons the baby's a "she" :) That said, during the scan and the subsequent measurements, it seems like the baby has a much smaller than (even lower) average head circumference, which could mean some form of defect, but oddly enough, the baby's weight (in spite of my weight not increasing) is still on track.  So I think it's likely it's an incorrect measurement due to the position of the baby. The doc probably thinks so too and scheduled another scan after 2 weeks. Had to do the glucose test again tomorrow - yuck! - but well, gotta do what you gotta do!
